Nowadays it’s hard for for streetwear lovers to find t-shirts that create reactions anymore. Sintient Threads says they are “…a streetwear fashion label and group of free thinking artists, bloggers, designers, models, skateboarders, philosophers and difference makers (sic) ready to liberate self-expression using fashion as a medium and a sword forged from one part irony, one part cleverness, two parts global consciousness and one part just not giving a faux.”

In its recent launch of Sintient’s website, the budding brand features two new t-shirts designs: “Einsteins Dank” and “Durdy Buddah”. The Einsteins Dank tee features a photo-realistic all-over print of Einstein smoking his pipe with the a-bomb mushroom cloud as his smoke stack, while the Durdy Buddah is an all-over custom t-shirt design that features Buddha smoking a Cuban cigar. Emerging from the cigar is a flock of birds.

Their somewhat controversial designs are deliberately created to follow their main vision: creating visceral reactions that move the viewer. As Creative Director, Burton Lancaster, stated:

“Some consider the custom T shirt designs controversial, some consider them genius, others scream blasphemy. I’m happy with any of those responses. The goal is to create solid gut reactions. Good … Bad … Speak your truth of it with conviction and I feel like my job is done.”

Sintient’s apparently doing something right to engage the audience as they’ve captured the attention of celebrities rather quickly. Comedian Dane Cook added both the Blunted Buddah and Einstein’s dank t-shirts to his wardrobe.

Despite the controversial theme for their t-shirts, Sintient sticks by its motto: “Silence the Oppression”. The Queen City, Charlotte N.C.-based streetwear label donates a percentage of all t-shirt sales to affiliates of ONE, the campaign against hunger.

What sucks is that there’s no bring-back yet of the Airwalk Disaster series shoes, or the NTS series. I’d even settle for a pair of 540’s. I know at least a dozen people who would buy the Jason Lee signature shoe if it were still in production.

The Vision shoes aren’t out yet, per se… They’re still scratching their chins wondering which ones they should definitely not include. (I told them, “hell no!” to the rainbow ones, we’ll see…) And with a prayer and a miracle I can score me a pair of these bad boys.

It’s great to see skateboarding of my generation getting the respect it deserves, and being a Los Angeleno born and raised I’m proud of my city’s contributions to skateboarding history. (And skateboarding shoe history)

Quiksilver Europe has been designing unique, limited edition board shorts in conjunction with surf retailers in Europe. This collaborative project entitled Quiksilver Union combines 40 of the very best surf retailers with Quiksilver’s branding and innovation.

For this summer Quiksilver worked with nine of these stores that are leaders in surf retailing to create their own board short inspired by their own unique surf culture and history, including symbols of their nation, while Quiksilver integrated into each board short new revolutionary designs and materials. All the board shorts will be exclusively available in the Union shops from May.

Jeff Hakman, Co-Founder of Quiksilver, said: “The strength of this project is the collaboration of like-minded companies coming together to strengthen the union between board short designs and board short retailing, creating passion into surf and products alike.”

The vision of the Quiksilver Union project is to provide retailers with customer excellence, from sales and marketing to service support to ensure success for both companies. Every year special products of a limited nature will be developed and marketed exclusively for Quiksilver Union clients, and every summer will see newly released collaborations with the best surf retailers across Europe.

The first retailers to launch are Northshore and Troggs (United Kingdom), Tubes (Ireland), Blue Tomato (Austria), Secret Spot (Germany), Point Break and Rainbow (France) and Tactic and Pukas (Spain).

For its latest collection, Puma went deep into the Puma archives in Boston, MA. After months of searching the PUMA archives, designers found and retooled the highly sought after original Suede silhouette from 1978.

The Suede Classic features the original last and tooling from the original Puma Suede that was first put into production in 1978. The shoe is a well known and iconic Puma Archive sneaker that was inspired by the classic Puma Clyde, Walt “Clyde” Frazier’s signature basketball shoe.

While the new Suede Classic’s tooling is a bit narrower, the toe is a little shorter, overall lending themselves to a sleeker appearance. Constructed with premium calf suede sourced from North America, the grain on the material gives off a super soft look and feel.

The shoe will be sold for approximately €70 beginning in August 2009.
